The 3 Tenets of Thrivespan
Purpose (non-goal-oriented)
Success (goal-oriented)
Longevity (our healthspan)
Our Thrivespan is the balance of non goal-oriented Purpose, goal-oriented Success, and Longevity (our healthspan) at every moment of our lives.
Sometimes, our goal-oriented success is what drives us, to the exclusion of our health or inner purpose. Sometimes, we are in tune with our relationships and delights, but we are stagnant or struggling with drive or accomplishments. We never need the perfect balance of the three--different moments and realities in life call for different priorities. But, we always need all three present, in some way, shape, or form.
If we ignore our health for most of our life, it can be difficult to implement the skills to integrate it into our lives as we age and truly require it. Likewise, if we myopically focus only on success, accomplishments, and external drives, it can be hard to find, connect with, and implement the inner meaning and generative drive we will need later in our lives. All three tenants are muscles to be built. The earlier we learn the needs and techniques in each area, the better. It is never too late to start. And we do not need to be perfect. Nobody is perfect in all three areas (if you know somebody who is, please let me know, so I can learn from them and share right away).
